During the first session held this year by the new CAP Group Board, Fernando Reitich, CEO since 2013, was elected Chairman of the Board while Erick Weber, former CAP Minería General Manager, was elected as CEO. Both executives have been tasked with the mission to lead the Company’s new development efforts into new markets and businesses.

In 2017, the CAP Group inaugurated a new insulated board plant and a galvanizing plant at Tupemesa, the most sustainable in Peru and modern in South America.

CAP Group enters the DJSI Chile, consisting of 26 national sustainability leader companies and the DJSI MILA index that brings together 42 companies, out of which only 17 are Chilean, thus being the first national steel mining group to join this indicator aimed to promote and safeguard corporate governance, social and environmental protection practices.

The Group CAP climbs 18 positions in MERCO 2017 corporate reputation ranking and came 32^th overall and third in Holding Empresarial. In the case of MERCO Talento, it obtained the first place in the Business Holding category.

In recognition to the commitment and the notable work performed by the company to protect its workers life and safety, CAP Minería was awarded the IST 2017 Great Award, the John T. Ryan Award for the third time in a row, and the annual Sernageomin Mining Safety Award, one of the most prominent distinctions awarded by the mining industry.

CAP Acero is granted the 2017 Clotario Blest Award for keeping good relationships with labor organizations and for advocating the development of labor unions within the company, as almost the entire workforce is unionized.

CAP Group is recognized as one of six most sustainable companies in Chile, according to the Corporate Sustainability Index of the Capital & ActionAbility Institute magazine that measures the progress made in environmental, social and economic areas by different companies.

CAP Acero and CAP Minería lead the latest Best PYMES Payers ranking, scoring a total of 95 points and exceeding the average in the mining business that reached only 69 points, and where CAP Acero has remained since 2015 at the top of the ranking. It should be noted that, in 2012, CAP was one of the first national companies to obtain the ProPyme Seal awarded by the Ministry of Economy.

CAP Acero was awarded the 2017 Energy Efficiency Award, Silver category, intended to identify and distinguish those companies that have declared energy efficiency as a company-wide policy and have assigned the energy monitoring and management responsibility to units specially appointed for that purpose and have thus been able to put in place a number of energy efficiency measures that are a contribution to competitiveness, productivity and the environment.

In 2017, the first copper shipment for SCM Minera Lumina Copper Chile – Caserones was made from Punta Totoralillo port, located in the Atacama region. On the occasion, 11K MT of copper concentrate were shipped and a long-term contractual relationship was started between CAP Minería and SCM Minera Lumina Copper Chile – Caserones, where CAP Minería will provide stockpiling and shipping services for the copper concentrate produced by SCM Lumina Copper.

A new CAP Group whistleblowing and consultation line was launched. It will be managed by the external company Generación Empresarial, committed to ensure the platform delivers top performance. Through this hotline, people can report irregularities, abuses and breaches of laws, codes, policies, procedures, regulations, values, principles and other company internal and external norms.

Together with other 13 other companies, the CAP Group voluntarily subscribed the Zero Waste Clean Production Agreement (CPA) aimed to achieve zero waste transfer to its offices and plants sanitary landfills. This public-private undertaking will work as a direct contribution to the implementation of the new Extended Producer Responsibility and Promotion of Recycling law, designed to promote the development of a waste management and recycling market in Chile.
